Your matrix saves automatically in this browser. Choose Pro when you want to keep a copy in your account.

Important: you are responsible for the accuracy of the allergen information you record. Always check ingredient labels and confirm with your suppliers — AllergenKit provides the format, not the facts. This tool does not constitute legal or food-safety advice.

A few things worth knowing.

Will the matrix I’ve made carry over?

Yes. Use a trial button on this page and we’ll copy your menu names, items and allergen entries into your account. Finish the email sign-in in this browser within 24 hours. Your original free copy stays here. You’ll still check the saved menu before printing.

What happens after the 7 days?

Choose to subscribe for £9/month or simply stop. We don’t ask for a card to start the trial, so you won’t be charged automatically. Your saved work stays in your account, and the free builder stays free.

Do I have to set up ingredients and recipes first?

No. You can start with this matrix and enter checked allergen facts directly. Ingredient records, reusable recipes and label tools are also included in Pro when you need them.

Can I keep using the free tool?

Yes. Build a matrix of up to 10 items, print it or save a PDF, and return to your draft in this browser. No account or trial required. Already have a larger matrix saved here? You can still edit and print every item; start a Pro trial when you want to add more.

How to use your matrix & allergen guidance

How to use this builder

  1. Add your business name and menu section.
  2. Add each menu item as a row.
  3. Click the cells to mark ✓ contains for verified ingredients. Use M may contain only where your cross-contact assessment identifies a remaining risk, following FSA precautionary labelling guidance.
  4. Print it or save as PDF (the printout includes the print date; check the allergen details before sharing it).
  5. Re-check whenever a recipe or supplier changes, and print a fresh dated copy.

What is an allergen matrix?

An allergen matrix — also called an allergen chart or sheet — lists menu items against the 14 regulated allergens. It gives staff a written reference for customer conversations. The FSA recommends written information alongside a conversation for non-prepacked food; a matrix is one way to provide it.

The 14 UK allergens covered

Celery, cereals containing gluten (wheat, rye, barley, oats), crustaceans, eggs, fish, lupin, milk, molluscs, mustard, tree nuts (almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, pecans, brazils, pistachios, macadamias), peanuts, sesame, soya, and sulphur dioxide/sulphites above 10mg/kg or 10mg/litre.

Example: a café sandwich

For an egg mayonnaise sandwich, check the bread and mayonnaise supplier labels as well as your recipe. If the bread contains wheat and the mayonnaise contains egg and mustard, add the sandwich as a row and mark ✓ under Cereals (Gluten), Eggs and Mustard. Check every other column before relying on the row. If you pack the sandwich before customers choose it for direct sale, use the free food label maker for a separate label draft and check the PPDS labelling guide; the matrix does not replace a required pack label.

Do I also need PPDS ("Natasha's Law") labels?

Food packed before it is selected or ordered may be PPDS when the same business packs and offers it for direct sale. Check the FSA PPDS guidance (or Food Standards Scotland guidance) for your sales method. PPDS packs need the name of the food and a full ingredient list with allergens emphasised; this matrix does not replace that label. Make one free label draft, or start a Pro trial to build reusable product records.
